I've been reading your page because the Bass kick my ass at the Upper Otay as well.

I was there Sunday the 6th and caught quite a few nice bluegill. A few on poppers and a few on some nymphs.

Its awesome you caught a bass in front of the gear fisherman, because they keep catching them in front of me.

Don't you hate it when you forget to plan somethings ahead of time for a fishing trip like...not bringing the exact fishing permit fee for the Iron Ranger? OK, I kept a good paper trail for this case, and hoped I did not have to fight this one. In December 2007, a sign stating pay the Iron Ranger (something to that effect) which apparently the OL folks were off that weekend to collect the boat launch & fishing permit fees. I asked everyone around me, if they have change for a $20. Unfortuantely, no one had it so I painstakingly paid $20 to LO Iron Ranger. I launched my boat, did my fishing, and ended the day with no catch. So here comes the main idea of my story.

Last week, I said to myself I ain't paying my $5 to fish UO, SD City owes me and that's fair in square for my actions. I went fishing at UO last week, and did not pay the Iron Ranger. I totally forgot my valid fishing license. That said no ranger for that day... wheeeww. That's one
down, and another one to go.

Today, I preppred myself very well this time. I even had $5 just in case I would be prompted. OK, I thought about paying, but said the I'll fight it if I have to. I noted the serial number of the $20 bill that I used to pay and the fishing permit number from December 2007. I had my valid fishing license this time, dangling off the top of my rice picker hat. I feel confident, and positive that I was going to catch my first bass for the year. I get there @ 06:30 yesterday and man UO was a packed. Tubers' anglin left & right. OK, I'm still sticking to plan, and hit the east side of the UO immediately. 10:30 not a single hit since I've been here, but boils left & right of me. Tubers are scoring and one bank angler on the west side said he reeled in two. Hanging tuff, I decide to move northeast a bit. Nothing there, OK it's 11:30 and I'm working my way back. After talking with some tubers, I'm hearing a dude caught 12 and others caught 3, no sweat I'll break my dry spell. I worked down southeast and sure enough BAMM! Finally a hit, by all that spinach & log area! Nice size boil too. Some young pup on the top of the dam heard it & said, "Hey you got one?... Nice on man..." Yeah I said, I'm in the structures too." Finally, I broke that dry spell for UO. However, the excitment is just getting started.

All right, so I take a pic of this LM bass and slide him back into area. About 20 minutes later, I hear a lady walking around on the west side and then she's asking two other shore anglers "Catch anything?" And the guys said we just got here, and I'm saying to myself... oh Dam(no pun intended) here she comes to scope my credentials. She starts walking towards the dam, and gets distracted by the two anglers she spoke with and walks away from the dam. All right I say to myself, I caught my LM bass, did not get fined yet, and I better call it the day. I quickly went to the other side and angling by the tullies until she left. Now that'

I was at UO on the 24th at 7am, working the shores, westside (by the iron ranger), southwest, worked the dam area, and then southeast side. Saw several boils along the way, and continued working the surfaces & deep areas.

Finally left @ 3:15pm without a single hit. I lost count of how many styro foam containers of worms I saw along the way, and that proves to me these bass have been spoiled. Oh well, it's been a couple years since I've gotten any major hits there, but I broke that streak a couple weeks ago at LO. Pissed off a 2 lber LM bass, and let him go (my bad, no pic). Tomorrow, I'll be hitting up northeast side first and work my way back, I used to get a lot of hits in that area. I'll recharge the batteries up tonight & take some photos in the morning..maybe see you there. L8!
